Olivia Rodrigo will close the festival on Sunday 29 June

Glastonbury has opened its gates, heralding the start of the UK’s biggest weekend of music.

The 1975, Neil Young and Olivia Rodrigo will headline the Pyramid Stage, with other highlights including Charli XCX, Doechii, Rod Stewart, Loyle Carner, The Prodigy and Wolf Alice.

Irish rap trio Kneecap remain on the line-up, despite Prime Minister saying their appearance is “not appropriate” after band member Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh was charged with a terror offence.

“There have been a lot of heated topics this year,” festival organiser Emily Eavis told the BBC. “But we remain a platform for artists from all over the world, and everyone is welcome here.”

Eavis also said it was unlikely that Neil Young’s headline set would be broadcast by the BBC.

The star is notoriously reluctant to let cameras interfere with his performance. The last time he played Glastonbury in 2009, his management only agreed to let five songs be shown – a decision that was made while Young played his set.

But there will still be more than 90 hours of coverage across BBC radio, television and iPlayer. And, as always, there are surprises in store.

More than 50 slots are marked “TBA”, with rumoured guests including festival stalwarts like Haim and Pulp; alongside more far-fetched options such as Lady Gaga and Radiohead.

Lady Gaga last played Glastonbury at the start of her career in 2009. Asked what it would take for her to return to the festival earlier this year, she replied: “Not much”.

Lady Gaga visited Worthy Farm in 2009, shortly after scoring her first two chart-toppers with Poker Face and Just Dance

There is also a lot of speculation over the identity of an act called “Patchwork”, who are billed on the main stage on Saturday afternoon.

Pulp are the front-runners, despite keyboard player Candida Doyle saying the festival “weren’t interested” in booking the band. Other names that have been rumoured for the slot include Lewis Capaldi and Chappell Roan.

The festival will kick off with two opening ceremonies on Wednesday 25 June, including a theatre and circus show – including high wire walkers and acrobats – in the Pyramid field, followed by a fireworks display at 22:45 BST.

To help you plan ahead, here is the full line-up and set timings across Glastonbury’s biggest stages.
